This 2023 version of the Mountainsmith Scream 55 shares its 55-liter capacity and 1270-gram weight with the standard model, but swaps in a shell blend of 210D Robic Dynajin nylon ripstop with a 210D recycled nylon Oxford panel, plus a 610D Cordura base and DWR water resistance. Mountainsmith rates it for loads up to 20 kg, a useful reference point for how hard this build can be pushed despite its ultralight-adjacent weight. Access combines a roll-top with a front panel J-zip, and the pack adds two ice axe loops, a daisy chain, and side-only compression straps. Worth noting is what's absent: no sleeping bag compartment, no shoulder strap pockets, and no internal organization pockets, so packing relies mainly on the main compartment and hip belt pockets. It's hydration-compatible, though no reservoir is included, and there's no integrated rain cover. At roughly 23.1 grams per liter, it matches the standard Scream 55's weight efficiency while leaning slightly more toward recycled materials and mountaineering-style ice axe carry, suited to multi-day trekking and thru-hiking.
