Description

The IMUSA Aluminum mug is not designed for hiking at all — it is a Latin American kitchen mug that thru-hikers on the Pacific Crest Trail and Appalachian Trail adopted as an ultralight, near-disposable cook pot, and the reputation has stuck. At 10 cm diameter, 8.6 cm tall and 660 ml capacity, it is large enough for a dehydrated meal or instant coffee, while the 76 g weight undercuts most purpose-built titanium mugs at a fraction of the price. It has no lid and no folding handle, so boil times run longer without a cover and the fixed handle needs a glove, bandana or pot cozy to grip once hot — a real trade-off for the weight and cost savings. Being plain aluminium rather than hard-anodized or titanium, it is also more prone to denting and scorching over a direct flame. Compatible with any stove type from alcohol to gas canisters, it works best for solo hikers boiling water or cooking simple one-pot meals rather than anyone wanting refined cookware.
