Description

The Suunto Clipper compass is a miniature clip-on compass weighing just 5 g, designed to attach to a watch strap, jacket sleeve, or the edge of a map. It's a secondary tool rather than a primary navigation instrument — useful as a quick reference within arm's reach, not a substitute for a full baseplate or mirror-sighting compass for precise off-trail navigation. Suunto, a manufacturer with roots dating back to 1936, is one of the established names in compasses and orientation gear. The liquid-filled needle is balanced for the northern hemisphere, giving accurate readings across Europe and North America but making it unsuitable for use south of the equator. Luminous cardinal markings help with orientation at dusk or at night, and the bezel is graduated in 10° increments — enough for basic direction-finding but not fine enough for precise bearing work. There's no declination adjustment, so anyone navigating in areas with significant magnetic variation needs to correct for it manually. Best treated as a backup or supplementary tool rather than primary navigation equipment.
