Description

The Six Moon Designs Deschutes Ultralight Backpacking Tarp is a solo shelter with a hexagonal pyramid shape rather than a plain pyramid, pitched from a single trekking pole. Built from 20D silicone-coated polyester rated to 3,000 mm HH, the silicone coating itself is factory-sealed at the seams, sparing owners the user-applied seam sealer that plain-coated tarps often require. It covers 4 m² when pitched, with one door and one vestibule for gear storage — a modest but functional layout for a floorless, three-season tarp. At 370 g, it sits squarely in ultralight territory for solo shelters, though as with most floorless tarps it offers no built-in floor or insect protection on its own. It pairs with the separate Serenity NetTent to form an enclosed, bug-proof system, an option worth considering for hikers in mosquito-heavy terrain. Guylines are included, but the six stakes needed to pitch it are not. Suited to ultralight and thru-hiking backpackers already comfortable with trekking-pole shelters, especially those who plan to add the compatible inner net tent rather than run the tarp alone in buggy conditions.
