The Mountain Hardwear Phantom Gore-Tex 0F/-18C is a 4-season winter mummy bag combining 850-fill, RDS-certified goose down (870 g fill) with a 30D nylon ripstop shell laminated with a Gore-Tex WINDSTOPPER membrane and a 20D nylon taffeta liner — a waterproof-breathable outer that sets it apart from Mountain Hardwear's standard Phantom winter bags, which use DWR-treated shells rather than a laminated membrane. Down is arranged in vertical baffles rather than the horizontal boxes used elsewhere in the line, a construction that allows some down migration for on-the-fly warmth adjustment. Manufacturer-rated (not independently EN/ISO-tested) at -11°C comfort, -18°C limit, and -39°C extreme, the bag weighs 1460 g with an 11-liter packed volume — heavier and bulkier than the standard Phantom 0F/-18C, a direct consequence of the membrane shell's added weight over a simple DWR treatment. Fitted hood, draft collar, and draft tube manage heat loss, and two bags can be coupled together. This suits alpine expeditions and open winter bivouacs in genuinely severe, wet-snow or wind-driven conditions where a breathable waterproof shell earns its weight penalty; for dry cold, the standard Phantom 0F/-18C would likely be the lighter, cheaper choice.
