Description

The BV450 is BearVault's compact hard-sided bear canister: a transparent polycarbonate cylinder holding 7.2 liters, certified by the IGBC (certification #5340), the approval land managers in many US wilderness areas — Yosemite among them — check for before allowing food storage on the trail. It holds roughly 3-4 days of food for one person, and the canister's flat lid doubles as a camp stool when packed, a detail specific to this design rather than incidental. At 940g it is heavier than soft-sided alternatives like an Ursack, the trade-off inherent to any hard canister: rigid polycarbonate walls resist chewing and clawing far better than fabric, and the transparent body lets you check contents without opening it, but neither benefit comes for free in pack weight. It suits solo or short backpacking trips in areas where hard-sided storage is mandated, rather than serving as a universal food-storage solution — longer trips or groups will need a larger canister or a different system entirely.
