Description
The Garcia Bear Cache is a hard ABS polymer canister with a 10 L (614 in³) capacity, certified by the IGBC for use in bear country. It's one of the oldest designs on the market — it has served as the standard since 1982, meaning a construction that has been field-tested for decades and is widely accepted by national park and forest agencies.
At 1243 g it sits on the heavier end of its category, the trade-off for a hard polymer shell and a simple, robust closure with no moving parts prone to failure. Its 18-meal capacity works out to roughly six days of food for one person, making it a better fit for longer solo trips than weekend outings.
It suits hikers heading into areas where a certified hard canister is required by regulation — typically US national parks with resident bear populations. Compared with lighter soft bags like the Ursack, it offers greater confidence in food protection at the cost of extra weight and less efficient use of pack space.
