Ursack All White

The Ursack All White is a soft-sided food storage bag built from UHMWPE (Spectra) fabric and certified by the IGBC as bear-resistant, offering an alternative to rigid canisters for backcountry food storage. At 215.5 g and 10.65 L capacity, it weighs a fraction of what a hard-sided canister of similar volume does, while packing down flat rather than taking up a fixed rigid shape inside the pack. Because it relies on cut- and puncture-resistant fabric rather than rigid walls, an Ursack needs to be tied securely to an anchor (typically a tree) to prevent a bear from carrying it off, unlike a hard canister that can simply be set on the ground — a trade-off worth checking against the regulations of the specific park or trail corridor being hiked, since some areas require hard-sided containers regardless of certification. For thru-hikers and ultralight backpackers on routes where soft bags are accepted, the weight and packed-volume savings over a hard canister are substantial, making the All White a natural fit for long-distance trips through bear country.
