The Appalacian Ultralight Balloon is a frameless, roll-top pack with 30 litres of capacity that weighs just 177 g — under 6 g per litre, putting it among the lightest packs of its size on the market. That weight comes from 1.43 oz Dyneema Composite Fabric (Cuben Fiber) built waterproof and seam-sealed, with no frame and a back system limited to padded shoulder straps and a sternum strap; there are no load lifters. Storage is deliberately minimal: one front and two side stretch-mesh pockets, no hip belt or hip belt pockets, no compression straps, and it is not built for a hydration reservoir. Per its stated use, it suits thru-hiking with a base weight of roughly 3.6 kg or less, plus day hikes — in other words, hikers who have already dialed in a light gear list and do not need a structured hip belt or side compression to manage the load. Anyone carrying heavier or bulkier gear will likely miss the stabilization a hip belt and compression straps normally provide.
