Its job is straightforward: it sits under the tent to absorb abrasion from rocks, roots, and grit that would otherwise wear directly on the tent floor over repeated trips. Because it's cut to the tent's exact footprint, it also enables Fast Fly mode: pitching just the fly, poles, and this footprint without the mesh inner body, which cuts significant weight and bulk for trips where full bug protection isn't needed. In that configuration, combined weight comes to 1330 g. On its own the footprint weighs 198 g and packs down to a compact 23 × 15 cm.
