The North Face Assault 2 FUTURELIGHT™ is a freestanding, single-wall 2-person tent from the Summit Series, aimed squarely at alpine climbing and expedition use rather than general backpacking. It pitches as one unified structure on two carbon-fiber Easton Syclone poles, and the whole canopy is FUTURELIGHT — an electrospun 20D breathable waterproof-membrane fabric rather than a separately coated fly, which is why the fly's own hydrostatic rating (1500 mm) reads modest next to coated fabrics: the membrane's job is managing condensation and breathability under a single wall, not just shedding rain. At 2705 g packed (2160 g minimum) for 2.49 m² of floor, it's compact and no-frills — no mesh panels, a single vestibule (0.93 m²), and only 4 stakes, all consistent with a tent meant to be pitched fast on exposed terrain and to shed wind rather than maximize livability. Two peak vents help offset single-wall condensation, a known trade-off of this design.
