The Katabatic Gear Alsek 22 850 is a three-season top quilt filled with 850-fill-power hydrophobic duck down, rated to 22°F (-6°C) comfort. At 621 g total with 403 g of fill, it sits toward the lighter end of quilts in this range, though 71 g heavier than the equivalent 900fp version in the same lineup — the trade-off for duck rather than goose down. Construction points to careful engineering rather than a generic sleeping-bag substitute: continuous horizontal baffles with a differential cut keep down from shifting and reduce cold spots, the footbox is a shaped trapezoid rather than a simple taper, and a down-filled draft collar seals the open back where the quilt meets the pad. The shell is recycled Pertex Quantum Eco ripstop over a Pertex Quantum Taffeta liner, both DWR-treated for light moisture resistance, not true waterproofing. One sizing detail matters: this is the "short" length, rated for users up to 167 cm — taller hikers need the regular or long version.
