The Western Mountaineering Nanolite is a top quilt rather than a full sleeping bag — no zipper, no full hood, just 370 g of shell and 184 g of 850 fill-power goose down doing the insulating work, cut from a 12D ExtremeLite ripstop nylon with a 10D taffeta liner. Removing the zipper and back insulation (since a sleeping pad handles that side) is what keeps quilts lighter than equivalent mummy bags at the same temperature rating.
Rated to a 3°C limit, it uses sewn-through baffles to keep the down from shifting, a trapezoidal sewn-through footbox that seals around the feet without a full enclosure, a draft collar to block drafts at the neck opening, and removable pad straps (attachment loops) to secure it to a pad and prevent cold gaps at the sides.
This suits ultralight backpackers and thru-hikers comfortable with quilt-style sleep systems and a properly insulated pad underneath — less so anyone wanting a fully enclosed, no-fuss bag. It packs to 25×15 cm, sized for users up to 183 cm.
