Exped FlexMat

The Exped FlexMat is an accordion-fold closed-cell foam pad made from IXPE foam, sized here as the XS variant at 120 x 52 cm - a torso-length pad rather than full body coverage. At 225 g and R-value 1.5 (ASTM), it's light enough to function as a supplementary layer rather than a primary sleep system for anyone who sleeps cold. Its main strength is reliability: with no valve, air chamber, or seams to fail, it can't puncture or leak, a common choice as puncture protection under an inflatable pad, or as a sit pad and pack-frame stiffener during the day. Used alone, the R-value and torso-only length limit it to mild three-season conditions and hikers who supplement leg insulation with a pack or spare clothing. It carries no pump sack, stuff sack, or repair kit since none are needed - the accordion fold is its own packing system, though closed-cell pads are bulkier per gram than air pads and typically ride outside the pack.
