Exped FlexMat Plus

The Exped FlexMat Plus is the thickest closed-cell foam pad in Exped's lineup, using 3.8 cm of IXPE foam to reach an R-value of 2.2 (ASTM) - warmer than the standard FlexMat's 1.5, at the cost of 90 g more weight (315 g versus 225 g) in the same XS, torso-length 120 x 52 cm size. A textured, dimpled surface adds grip versus the standard FlexMat's smoother finish. Like all closed-cell foam pads, it can't puncture or fail at a seam, dependable in terrain with thorns, sharp rock, or crampons where a punctured air pad would be a real problem. The extra thickness closes some of the comfort gap with inflatable pads while keeping the reliability advantage, though at 52 x 13 x 13 cm packed it's bulkier than most air pads. As an XS torso pad, it works best paired with a pack or spare clothing under the legs, or as upgraded puncture protection under an inflatable mat. For hikers who want more warmth from foam, it's the warmer, heavier sibling to the standard FlexMat.
