Them-A-Rest Z-Lite Sol

The Z Lite Sol is Therm-a-Rest's long-running closed-cell foam pad, built from textured, dimpled EVA foam with a metallized ThermaCapture coating that reflects body heat back upward. It folds in an accordion pattern rather than rolling, packing down to roughly 51 x 14 cm, and can also ride outside the pack, strapped flat, without taking up interior volume. At an R-value of 2.0 (tested to ASTM F3340-18) it's rated for three-season use — comfortable on mild ground but not standalone insulation for winter camping on snow. In the standard 183 x 51 cm size it weighs 410 g, a weight-to-R-value ratio of roughly 205 g per point, typical for closed-cell foam rather than the lighter ratios inflatables reach. With no valve, no air chamber, and nothing to puncture, it trades weight and pack size for reliability: it cannot fail overnight the way an inflatable can, which is why it remains a common choice as a standalone summer pad or a rugged layer under an air pad in colder conditions.
