Description

The Hyperlite Mountain Gear 4400 Windrider shares its 70 L (86 L expanded) volume with the sibling Southwest model but comes in slightly lighter at 1085 g, or 12.6 g per liter of capacity. The build differs too: the body uses Dyneema Woven Composite 3.9 fabric, and the pack skips load lifters — a small loss in load fine-tuning on the shoulders, offset by less weight and fewer components to fail. Removable aluminum stays and a padded back panel with a zippered hip belt carry over, so the Windrider still handles heavier loads than HMG's frameless packs. Three external mesh pockets — one more than the Southwest — give quick access to frequently used items like a water filter, rain shell, or snacks without opening the main roll-top compartment. The Windrider is built for multi-day trekking, thru-hiking, and alpine trips where the durability and low water absorption of Dyneema fabric matter more than the extra load stabilization that load lifters would provide.
