The Trailblazer 44 is the largest pack in Montane's ultralight backpack line and the only one built with aluminium stays rather than foam or an HDPE sheet alone — at a 14 kg rated load and a suggested trip length of 3–5 nights, that added structure is doing real work once the pack is loaded. At 1,090 g for 44 litres (24.8 g/l), it stays in lightweight-multiday territory rather than crossing into traditional heavy trekking pack weight.
A side zip into the main compartment, alongside the roll-top closure, is a practical detail — it means digging out gear from the bottom without unpacking everything from the top first. The shell combines recycled RAPTOR Cross Lite 70D nylon with a PU laminate and PFC-free DWR, while the base uses a tougher 210D triple-ripstop recycled nylon. Trekking poles attach via side loops, and side compression straps cinch the volume down when the pack isn't fully loaded. Montane lists both multi-day trekking and ultralight thru-hiking as intended uses, and the 40–53 cm adjustable back range covers a wide span of body sizes.
