Description

The largest canister in the MSR IsoPro range carries 450 g of fuel with the same 80/20 isobutane-propane blend, at a total weight of 652 g. A higher share of metal-canister weight relative to fuel is typical at larger sizes — the fuel-to-container ratio only improves so much as size increases, so even here the fuel itself accounts for under three-quarters of total weight. The isobutane-propane blend holds pressure more reliably in the cold than pure butane, and the manufacturer rates it for use down to 0°C, making it a reasonable choice for early spring or late autumn trips. The EN417-standard Lindal valve fits the vast majority of threaded stoves on the market regardless of brand. Given its bulk and weight, this size suits base camps, longer trips with multiple people, or situations where you're optimizing for fewer canisters rather than grams per person — for solo ultralight backpacking it's generally more than you need.
