MSR MicroRocket

The MSR MicroRocket is an ultracompact canister stove that screws onto standard Lindal B188 isobutane/propane canisters, weighing 73 grams and shipping with a carry bag. The burner body is stainless steel and the pot-support arms fold flat against it, so the packed stove fits in a closed fist. It boils 1 litre of water in about 3.5 minutes and 500 ml in around 2 minutes — figures that point toward solo cooking rather than group meals. It has piezo ignition and a simmer control for dialing back the flame, but no pressure regulator, so output drops more noticeably in cold weather or as the canister runs low compared with regulated stoves. Wind resistance is rated moderate, and the WindClip flame guard is not a substitute for a proper windscreen, so a separate one is worth carrying in exposed terrain. MSR discontinued the MicroRocket in 2017 in favor of the PocketRocket 2, but it remains a common secondhand pick for lightweight solo trips.
