The Sawyer Squeeze SP129 is the original, classic model in Sawyer's hollow-fibre squeeze filter line, sharing the same 0.1-micron absolute filtration as the smaller Micro Squeeze — it removes bacteria and protozoa but not viruses. Compared with the compact variant, it weighs 85 grams, almost double, but flow is slightly higher at 1.7 litres per minute, and the manufacturer rates the cartridge to 378,000 litres.
The filtration media is hollow fiber, and the filter threads directly onto standard 28 mm soda-bottle necks; it can also be run inline with a hydration bladder. It does not remove chemicals or heavy metals, the cartridge is not replaceable — the whole unit filters for its service life — and it is cleaned with a backflush syringe in the field. The extra weight and slightly better flow make it a better fit for group cooking or filtering larger water volumes, while solo ultralight trips are usually better served by the lighter Micro Squeeze.
