The Sawyer Squeeze SP131 is a hollow-fiber squeeze filter rated at 0.1 µm absolute, which translates to removing 99.99999% of bacteria and 99.9999% of protozoa such as giardia and cryptosporidium. It threads directly onto standard 28 mm PET bottles or runs inline in a hydration hose, with a rated lifespan of up to 3,000,000 liters — effectively the life of the filter with no cartridge swap needed.
Flow rate sits around 2 l/min in squeeze use, typical for this membrane type: faster than gravity setups but noticeably slower than a pump filter. It does not remove viruses, placing it firmly in the standard hiking-filter category suited to Europe and North America rather than regions with viral water contamination risk. Cleaning is done by backflushing with the included syringe; the filter isn't freeze-resistant, so it needs protection from freezing temperatures. The set ships with three collapsible pouches and an inline adapter.
