Description
The Antonini Old Bear Total Black is a traditionally styled Italian folding knife with an 8 cm AISI 420 HC steel blade finished in black PTFE coating, which cuts down on glare and adds a bit of corrosion resistance over a bare polished blade. The handle is black-stained laminated poplar wood — a material with a warmer feel in hand than plastic but one that needs more care when wet.
Blade retention comes from a patented rotating collar that locks the blade in both the open and closed position without a traditional back spring, a mechanism typical of classic Italian slip-joint knives. Opening is manual via a nail nick, there is no pocket clip, and no sheath is included. Blade thickness of 1.8 mm and a hardness of 54 HRC point toward light-duty use — food prep, opening packaging, camp chores — rather than heavy bushcraft work. At 31 g and 110 mm closed, it carries easily for everyday use, though for a strict ultralight kit it remains an optional extra rather than an essential.
