Description
The Sea to Summit Minimalist Tarp is an ultralight trekking-pole shelter with a catenary cut, so the fabric edges curve to let the tarp pitch drum-tight in wind rather than sagging like a flat panel. Twin storm flaps add extra weather protection when pitched low against wind and rain, or can be propped open for shade and airflow in warmer conditions - useful flexibility for a shelter that has to cover a range of weather on a longer trip.
Guy lines with adjustable tensioners are included, so the pitch can be fine-tuned without sourcing separate cordage. As with any trekking-pole tarp, it needs poles you're already carrying to walk with rather than dedicated tent poles, which keeps pack weight down but means there's no floor and no built-in bug protection - hikers who want that need to pair it with a separate groundsheet or bug shelter.
