Description
The Sea to Summit Escapist 15D Tarp Large is a flat rectangular tarp shelter cut from 15-denier silnylon, sized 3×3 m for roughly 9 m² of coverage — enough to shelter two hikers plus gear when pitched low, or one person with a generous porch pitched higher. At 440 g it undercuts most freestanding single-wall tents, though it requires trekking poles rather than dedicated tent poles to set up.
Eight tie-out points, reinforced with hypalon patches to spread load on the thin fabric, and color-coded reflective guylines make pitching and tensioning straightforward even in the dark. Seams are tape-sealed and the fabric carries a 1200 mm waterhead rating — adequate for sustained rain rather than storm-proofing on par with a heavier four-season tent, but in line with what silnylon tarps in this weight class typically offer. The pitch is fully open, so ventilation and views are excellent but there's no built-in floor or insect protection — gear for hikers comfortable trading enclosed shelter for minimum weight, usually paired with a bivy or groundsheet of their own.
