REI Co-op Magma Trail Quilt 30

The REI Co-op Magma Trail Quilt 30 is an ultralight down backpacking quilt — an alternative to a sleeping bag, with no zipper and no full hood. The 850-fill-power hydrophobic goose down (269 g) is distributed 60/40 toward the top layer, since the underside gets compressed by body weight anyway and contributes little insulation — this is how quilts shave weight versus a bag with fill spread evenly around the circumference. Baffle construction is continuous, with horizontally oriented chambers, and a collar around the neck limits heat escaping upward. A trapezoidal, ventilated foot box lets you regulate warmth at the feet, and pad loops let you strap the quilt to a sleeping pad, closing off the draft gaps a quilt otherwise leaves at the sides. The shell is 15D Pertex ripstop nylon from recycled fiber, with a 15D recycled downproof nylon liner treated with DWR. In short size (fitting up to 167 cm), the quilt weighs 496 g and packs to 33 × 12 cm. The -1°C (30°F) rating places it in three-season territory, and the down carries RDS certification.
