MEC Aphelion UL -7C Down Sleeping Bag

The Aphelion UL packs 900-fill-power hydrophobic goose down into a mummy shape rated by MEC to -7°C limit and -1°C comfort, at a total weight of 700 g including 425 g of down fill. That fill-to-shell ratio, combined with 900-power down — among the highest lofting grades commonly used — keeps the bag light for its warmth. Vertical baffles run the length of the bag, and the down itself carries RDS (Responsible Down Standard) certification and a hydrophobic treatment that slows moisture absorption if the bag gets damp inside a pack or tent. To save weight, MEC fitted a half-length zipper instead of a full-length one, which trims fabric and zipper mass but limits how much you can vent the bag or use it fully unzipped as a quilt substitute. A contoured, fitted hood and integrated draft collar and draft tube seal warmth around the shoulders and neck. Given the -7°C rating and 3-4 season billing, it suits cold-shoulder-season backpacking and thru-hiking where warmth per gram matters, though the rating is a guide rather than a guarantee across different sleepers.
