The Exped Ultra 7R Mummy is the tapered version of the Ultra 7R, and at the same R-value of 7.1 (ASTM F3340-18) it weighs just 496 g against 649 g for the rectangular pad — a saving of over 150 g without giving up expedition-level insulation. That insulation is 700 fill-power RDS-certified down (DownMat Technology) set in horizontal baffles.
Weight per R-point comes out to just under 70 g, by far the best figure of the nine Exped pads covered here, and a number that puts this pad among the most efficient winter options available — well suited to winter thru-hiking or light expeditions where grams matter but warmth can't be compromised. Thickness is 8.9 cm, with a maximum recommended user height of 183 cm. The top fabric is recycled 20D ripstop polyester with a TPU laminate, DWR-free, bluesign certified.
The package includes a Schnozzel Pumpbag UL and repair kit, the pad is PFC-free, and it carries a 5-year warranty. As with any down insulation, moisture reduces its effectiveness, so care around wet snow or rain is worth building into trip planning.
