Pods are Hyperlite Mountain Gear's line of waterproof organisational stuff sacks, built from Dyneema DCF with a clamshell zip opening rather than the more common roll-top or drawstring closure. The clamshell design lets the sack fully unzip along two sides, so contents are visible and accessible without digging through a narrow opening — useful for small, frequently accessed items like electronics, first aid supplies or repair kits inside a larger pack. They come in four sizes from 9 to 16 litres, with the smallest weighing from 34 g, and every seam is taped for full water resistance rather than just water-repellent fabric.
Because they are made from DCF rather than coated nylon, they resist absorbing water and dry quickly, at a price premium over standard silnylon or polyester pack liners. Pods work best as an organisational layer inside an already-waterproof pack system, not as a primary rain barrier for the whole load. They suit ultralight backpackers who want to compartmentalise gear by function while keeping added weight to single-digit grams per item.
