Description

The Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Nano Tarp Poncho is built around a simple idea: instead of carrying a rain jacket, a pack cover, a groundsheet and an emergency shelter separately, you carry one 230 g piece of 15D silnylon that does all four jobs. That weight is only realistic because the fabric is thin and the seams do double duty as waterproofing. A 1,200 mm hydrostatic head is a mid-range figure for silnylon shells — enough for typical rain and drizzle, though it will wet through faster than a heavier laminate under sustained downpours or sitting/kneeling pressure. The double-stitched, tape-sealed seams keep leaks concentrated at the fabric itself rather than at construction points, which is the more common failure mode on cheaper ponchos. Trade-offs come with the multi-use design: worn as a poncho it lacks the tailored fit and sleeves of a rain jacket, and as a tarp it needs a trekking pole or trees to pitch. It suits thru-hikers and gram-counters willing to accept some compromise in exchange for consolidating four items into one.
