The Windrider 40 in Black is Hyperlite Mountain Gear's thru-hiking pack, built from fully waterproof Dyneema Composite Fabric DCH150 rather than the lighter DCH50 seen on lower-stress panels elsewhere in HMG's range. Main volume is 40 litres, plus 9.8 litres in external mesh pockets for 49.8 litres total, at a size-M weight of 916 g. The frame uses removable aluminium stays with a contact-padded back panel sized for a 38–53 cm torso.
Unlike some HMG packs, the padded hip belt is fixed rather than removable, but it keeps zippered pockets for quick-access items. Two stretch-mesh side pockets and one front pocket handle bottles and wet gear, while compression straps run along the sides only, with no shoulder strap pockets or internal organisation beyond the roll-top main compartment. With an 18 kg load rating and roughly 18.4 g per litre of volume, it sits toward the heavier end of HMG's ultralight lineup — a reasonable trade for the durability of fully waterproof fabric on long, wet trails.
