Superior Wilderness Designs Rugged Long Haul 40L

The Rugged Long Haul 40L is a tougher take on the Long Haul model, built from Ultra400X UHMWPE fabric instead of the lighter EPLX200 polyester used elsewhere in the line. Better resistance to abrasion and punctures comes at the cost of extra fabric weight, in exchange for a pack that should hold up better to rough terrain, brush, or frequent setting down on rocky ground. The carrying system uses twin 7075 aluminum stays, and the back panel adjusts across a 4-inch range to fit different torso lengths. Nominal capacity is 40 litres, further extendable via the roll-top closure, and the pack weighs 885 g — 17.7 g per litre at base capacity, comparable to the lighter Movement 40L even though the Rugged Long Haul targets durability rather than the lowest possible weight. A padded hip belt with pockets and load lifters round out the feature set. It suits demanding multi-day treks and thru-hiking in terrain where fabric toughness matters more than on typical ultralight routes.
