Katadyn Micropur Forte MF 1T are chemical water disinfection tablets combining chlorine and silver ions — one tablet treats one liter. They kill bacteria and viruses within 30 minutes and protozoa, including Giardia, within 120 minutes, so unlike a mechanical filter they require a wait before the water is safe to drink. A pack of 100 tablets treats 100 liters at a total weight of just 22 g, making it an extremely weight-efficient option for longer trips or as a backup to a filter. The tablets are freeze-resistant, so they can be carried in winter conditions without worrying about the treatment degrading. Unlike filtration, chemical treatment doesn't address turbidity or particulate matter in the water and changes its taste. As a supplement or backup to a filtration system such as a squeeze filter, though, it offers reliability with no moving parts and no risk of a membrane freezing — a real advantage for winter trips or minimalist kit where carrying a filter isn't worth the weight.
