Description

The Sawyer Micro Squeeze is a compact squeeze filter using a hollow-fibre membrane with an absolute pore size of 0.1 microns, removing 99.99999% of bacteria and protozoa. It's tested against bacteria and protozoa specifically, not viruses, so in regions with a viral water-contamination risk (typically outside Europe and North America) it doesn't provide complete protection on its own. A 1.6 L/min flow rate is on the faster end for squeeze filters and clearly beats its older sibling, the Sawyer Mini. The filter needs priming before first use and can be backflushed with a syringe in the field, which helps stretch its rated lifespan of over 378,000 litres. The cartridge itself isn't replaceable — once it's spent, the whole filter gets swapped out. At 57 g, it's compatible with inline use in a hydration bladder as well as bottles with a 28 mm PCO thread. The filter doesn't remove chemicals or heavy metals and isn't freeze-resistant — below freezing, residual water inside the membrane can damage it. It's a reliable, fast option for filtering surface water on typical temperate-climate treks.
