Description

The Petzl SWIFT RL sits toward the powerful end of the lineup, with a 1100-lumen maximum and a 155 m beam distance. Its defining feature is Reactive Lighting: a sensor reads ambient light and automatically adjusts brightness, so there's no manual mode-switching — output ramps up when you're scanning a dark trail ahead and drops when you glance at a map or dig through your pack. In practice this extends battery life without sacrificing comfort. The built-in rechargeable battery charges over USB-C, and a manual (non-reactive) mode plus red light for night-vision preservation are both available. IPX4 handles rain and splashes but not submersion, and a lock function prevents accidental activation in a pack. At 100 g it's a mid-weight lamp — the cost of the extra output and the Reactive Lighting hardware. It suits night hiking, races, and multi-day trips where terrain lighting conditions vary a lot (open ridge versus dense forest), and automatic brightness adjustment genuinely saves time and battery compared with switching modes by hand.
