The Snowline Chainsen Pro is a traction device with eleven 1 cm steel spikes mounted on an elastomer sling that stretches over your regular hiking or running shoe, for use on packed snow and ice. A size M pair weighs 320 g and comes with a carry pouch for stuffing into a pack when the trail turns dry.
Eleven points spread under the forefoot and heel give more consistent grip than a four- or six-point design, especially on icy, packed trails and frozen ascents, but the 1 cm spike length is shallow compared to dedicated crampons, so it is not a substitute on steep, hard ice or glaciated terrain where you would want a mountaineering crampon instead. Suited to winter hiking and trail running on snow-packed or icy paths rather than technical alpine routes.
