Description
MSR's Blizzard Sand/Snow Stake ships as a set of four broad, flat-profile pegs, 24 cm long and made from 7075-series aluminum. The wide cross-section is the whole point: in loose snow or dry sand, a narrow needle or V-stake simply pulls through the material under tension, while a flat blade-shaped stake presents enough surface area to act as a deadman anchor, especially when buried horizontally rather than driven straight down.
That extra surface area and length come with a weight penalty compared with the slim stakes bundled with most 3-season tents, so this isn't a general-purpose upgrade — it's a purpose-built accessory for conditions where ordinary stakes fail outright: winter tent pitches, beach camps, and desert or dune sites with no firm ground to bite into. For anyone pitching a shelter on dirt, rock, or normal forest duff, the standard stakes that came with the tent will do the job for less weight; this set earns its place in the pack specifically when the terrain won't hold a narrow peg.
