MSR Ground Hog Stake

The MSR Ground Hog Stake is a classic aluminium tent stake with a Y-beam cross-section, which resists bending better than a simple wire or nail-type stake while still holding well across a wide range of soils, from soft forest duff to harder dry ground. The pack contains 6 pieces – enough for a typical tent with four to six anchor points, plus a couple of spares. A reflective pull loop at the top makes each stake easy to spot in low light and easy to remove without digging. Each stake weighs 14 g, so the full set comes to 84 g – a standard rather than an extreme-weight choice within ultralight circles, but with a better strength-to-weight ratio than thin wire stakes. At 19 cm long it's a versatile length for most ground types, though it will hold less securely than wider snow stakes in soft snow or loose sand. A sensible default or backup set for tents and tarps alike, where dependable anchoring matters more than shaving the last gram.
