The Enlightened Equipment Recon Bivy is a minimalist bug bivy rather than a full weatherproof shelter — its job is keeping insects and light debris off a sleeping quilt, not blocking rain. At 180 g, 213 cm long and 86 cm wide, it's built from a breathable 10D nylon top with a 15D silnylon bathtub floor for ground moisture, and integrated no-see-um mesh handles bug protection without adding a separate net.
A full-length side zip runs the length of the bivy, making entry and exit straightforward compared with bivies that only open partway, and the regular size accommodates users up to 183 cm. The breathable top panel matters most on humid nights, letting condensation from breath and body moisture escape rather than collecting on the inside of the fabric the way a fully waterproof shell would.
This is a pairing piece: on its own it adds negligible protection from weather, but combined with a tarp, or for open-sky camping in dry conditions, it keeps a quilt clean and bug-free at almost no weight cost — a natural fit for ultralight and cowboy-camping setups.
