Description
The MSR Front Range 4 Person is an ultralight tarp shelter for four with an A-frame-optimized cut, meaning it pitches on two opposing supports – trekking or ski poles – rather than dedicated tent poles. The fabric is silnylon rated to a 1200 mm water column, the ridgeline runs 2.74 m, and the covered floor area comes to 7.52 m2. Guylines are included for tensioning the corners and ridge.
At just 737 g for a four-person shelter, that works out to under 185 g per occupant – a figure typical of tarps rather than conventional tents, since there is no floor or full side walls to add weight, and none to block wind-driven rain either. The green colourway blends into vegetation. It suits groups of experienced ultralight hikers comfortable pitching a tarp correctly for the terrain and conditions at hand, rather than newcomers looking for a straightforward, fully enclosed tent.
