Description
The Mountainsmith Mountain Shelter LT is a single-wall, two-person shelter with a shaped cat-cut design rather than a flat tarp — a cut that improves weather resistance and headroom compared to a basic rectangle. It pitches using two trekking poles instead of dedicated shelter poles, keeping pack weight down for anyone already carrying poles for the trail, and stands asymmetrically at 135 cm at the front dropping to 100 cm at the rear.
Fabric is 40d silnylon rated to a 2000mm PU coating, a solid waterproof rating for a lightweight single-wall shelter, though single-wall construction means no bug protection and a higher chance of condensation compared to double-wall tents. The floor area is about 5 square meters. The package includes 13 aluminum V-stakes and reflective guylines, with 13 attachment points on the shelter itself for pitching flexibility.
At 850 grams, it sits well within ultralight shelter territory, suited to hikers prioritizing low base weight over the comfort and ventilation of a freestanding tent.
