Description
YAMA Mountain Gear's 5'/7'x9' tapered tarp is a lightweight A-frame shelter in the Eco line, using a 20D recycled SilPoly fabric to bring weight down to 240 g while keeping a 2000 mm waterproof rating suited to three-season conditions. The tapered, catenary-cut ridgeline (2.79 m) sheds wind more effectively than a flat rectangular tarp of similar coverage, at the cost of some pitch-configuration flexibility.
With 11 attachment points, the tarp supports a range of pitch styles beyond the basic A-frame — full closure, half-pyramid, or wind-shedding low pitches in exposed terrain — making it a versatile floorless shelter for hikers who already carry poles and stakes separately (neither is included). As a silpoly tarp rather than DCF, it trades some weight for lower cost and better UV/abrasion durability over time.
This is a solid entry point into tarp camping: light enough for ultralight base weights, tough enough silpoly construction for repeated three-season use, without the premium and fragility trade-offs of a Dyneema equivalent.
