Description

This tapered A-frame tarp from YAMA Mountain Gear is built from 0.8 oz Dyneema Composite Fabric (DCF), covering 5 m² with a 2.74 m ridgeline. The tarp alone weighs 156 g, putting it among the lightest options in its category — unlike silnylon or silpoly, DCF carries no separate waterproof coating that can wear off over time, so its water resistance doesn't degrade with use the way a coated fabric's can. Catenary-cut edges combined with the tapered footprint simplify pitching: the tarp hangs from two trekking poles, and ten attachment points allow the tension and height to be adjusted for conditions. The taper narrows the foot end, where less coverage is needed, trimming both weight and pack volume further. DCF typically costs more than silnylon, but it delivers a better strength-to-weight ratio and doesn't absorb water. This tarp suits thru-hiking and ultralight setups where every gram counts, less so for hikers prioritizing maximum covered floor space or the lowest purchase price.
