The Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Ultra is an air pad with THERMOLITE insulation and a heat-reflective film, rated to an R-value of 4.5 under ASTM F3340-18 — enough for three-season use including cooler spring and autumn nights. The I-Beam chamber construction holds its shape better than simple longitudinal tubes and limits side-to-side roll.
At 624 g and 8.9 cm thick, that works out to 138.7 g per unit of R-value, a solid figure among air pads — a noticeably lighter setup than self-inflating foam pads with comparable insulation. Inflated it measures 183x51 cm (Regular), and it packs down to a 20x10 cm cylinder.
The package includes a pump sack, stuff sack, and repair kit, so the pad is ready to use straight out of the box. A quiet, rustle-free surface is welcome for light sleepers in a shared tent. For pure summer use the extra insulation is unnecessary, and for winter expeditions the R-value falls short — it works best as a general-purpose three-season choice.
