Exped Dura 8R

At the top of Exped's Dura line, the Dura 8R reaches an R-value of 7.8 (ASTM) using the same Downmat Technology down as the Dura 6R, but at 963 g it's a touch lighter than the 6R's 990 g. That's because the 8R uses the narrower 52 cm regular width rather than the 6R's 65 cm regular-wide, and its 8.9 cm thickness - the tallest in the Dura range - lets a given amount of down trap more air per gram. This is a genuinely winter- and alpine-rated pad, not a general three-season option: an R-value near 8 targets sub-zero ground temperatures, and most three-season hikers would carry more insulation than needed. As with any down pad, performance depends on staying dry. Vertical baffle construction and a 75D/170D recycled ripstop polyester shell, Oeko-Tex 100 certified, handle abrasion on frozen or rocky ground, and two low-profile valves manage inflation. A Schnozzel pump bag and repair kit are included. For alpine and polar trips where cold is the primary risk, the Dura 8R is a specialist choice, not an everyday ultralight pad.
