Exped Ultra 3R

The Exped Ultra 3R is the successor to the older SynMat HL MW and uses what Exped calls Synmat Technology™ — a 60 g/m² Texpedloft synthetic layer welded directly to both the top and bottom of the air chambers rather than left loose inside. That keeps the fill from shifting and creating cold spots. Its ASTM R-value of 2.9 fits comfortably in the 3-season range. The unit covered here is the S (small/short) size at just 160 cm long — shorter than the standard-length mats in this range — weighing 405 g. The top fabric is recycled 20D ripstop polyester with Oeko-Tex 100 certification, and the bottom adds a TPU laminate. Construction uses horizontal baffles and two low-profile valves compatible with the included Schnozzel Pumpbag, plus a stuff sack and repair kit. A 5-year warranty applies. The 160 cm length typically suits users under roughly 175 cm tall, or anyone happy to pad out the foot end with a pack; otherwise, at around 140 g per unit of R-value, it's a highly efficient 3-season pad for lightweight trekking.
