Exped Ultra 7R

The Exped Ultra 7R sits at the demanding end of the winter pad range — an R-value of 7.1 under ASTM F3340-18 puts it in expedition territory, the kind of insulation used for sleeping well below freezing on multi-day winter trips. Unlike the synthetic Ultra 3R/5R pads, insulation here comes from down (DownMat Technology, 700 fill power, RDS-certified), welded into the air chambers with horizontal baffles. At 649 g and 8.9 cm thick, that's about 91 g per R-point — an excellent figure for a down-insulated pad at this R-value, and lighter than an equivalent synthetic pad would typically be at the same warmth level. The trade-off with down is that it loses insulating power if it gets wet, worth watching on extended winter trips. It packs to 28 × 14 cm. The top fabric is recycled 20D ripstop polyester, Oeko-Tex 100 certified. Two low-profile valves allow fast inflation, and the package includes a Schnozzel Pumpbag UL and repair kit, backed by a 5-year warranty.
