The Exped Versa 1R is an entry-level summer air pad with no added insulation, rated R-1.4 — fine for warm nights but not for cooler autumn or mountain conditions. Compared to the insulated Ultra and Versa 2R+ pads, the simpler construction trades off against weight: 544 g for just 5 cm of inflated height, and a weight-per-R figure of over 388 g per point, the highest of all the pads covered here — an expected result given there's no insulation layer to offset the fabric weight.
The upside is durability: the top fabric is 75D recycled ripstop polyester, considerably heavier-duty than the 20D fabrics on the Ultra line, making this a practical choice for less experienced hikers, family trips, or rougher ground where puncture risk is higher. An integrated pump saves breath and time when inflating, and the pad packs down to a compact 20 × 11 cm.
The package includes a stuff sack and repair kit; the fabric is recycled, bluesign certified, and PFC-free, and the pad carries a 5-year warranty.
