The Atom Packs The Atom RE40 is a frameless ultralight pack with 44 L of volume and a weight of just 438 g, making it one of the lightest packs in this capacity class. The body is built from EPX200 fabric with a tougher EPX400 base, closes with a roll-top, and includes one front pocket, two side pockets, and two ice axe loops.
It has no hip belt at all, so the full load rides on the shoulders and chest strap — a typical frameless trade-off that saves weight but caps how much load you can carry comfortably. Without a frame, load lifters, or an integrated rain cover, it's clearly built for minimum base weight rather than comfort under heavier loads.
It targets thru-hikers running a minimalist gear list and a low base-weight target who are used to packing light and don't need to carry heavy food or water stretches. For standard multi-day trips with a fuller kit, one of Atom Packs' framed models is the better fit.
