Hyperlite Mountain Gear Unbound 40

The Unbound 40 is an ultralight roll-top pack with a total capacity of 49 L (40 L main body plus a 9 L external stretch mesh pocket). Built from Dyneema Composite Hybrid fabric — a 3.8 weight in white, a different DCH grade in black — it combines abrasion resistance with the low weight typical of Dyneema-based laminate fabrics. The carry system uses a removable aluminum stay and a padded, contact-style back panel, plus a chest strap; the hip belt is also padded but has no adjustable load lifters. One front pocket and two side pockets give quick access to frequently used items without opening the main roll-top compartment. At 839 g, the volume-to-weight ratio works out to 58.4 L/kg, or 17.1 g per liter of capacity — figures consistent with the ultralight thru-hiking pack category, where an aluminum stay is still considered a reasonable middle ground between carry-system rigidity and weight compared with fully frameless designs.
